With these instructions, you can setup your CW Automate server to easily deploy and license your client machines with the AutoElevate agents. The Installation script will deploy the agent on the client machine into the LTSvc->packages->AutoElevate folder, silently install the MSI, and start the “AutoElevateAgent” service without interaction from the user. As per other deployments that are done with CW Automate, for initial installation to be successful you must have valid credentials configured within CW Automate in the Company or Location deployment settings. Once the AutoElevate agents are deployed you will be able to elevate standard user’s credentials to admin privileges on the fly with the simple tap of a button and without requiring you to remote into end user’s machines to enter additional password credentials. Please use the following instructions to setup AutoElevate deployment using CW Automate.
Automate Control Center:
From the Automate Control Center do the following:
- Import the “AutoElevate INSTALL.xml” file by going to “System->General->XML Expansion” and then selecting the file from where you downloaded it on your machine.
- Import the “AutoElevate UNINSTALL.xml” file by going to System->General->XML Expansion” and then selecting the file from where you downloaded it on your machine.
- Locate the “AutoElevate INSTALL” and “AutoElevate UNINSTALL” scripts in the Scripts folder in your Automate Control Center and double click to open and modify.
- Locate each line that starts with “Create New Ticket” and decide whether you would like a ticket created as part of the installation for the given conditions. If you would like to enable customize your preferences in the script to control ticketing be setting lines that create tickets to the ticket creation and/or to customize ticket contents, double click on the script line to open and modify.
- Customize the text to adjust the Subject and Body of the tickets that are created and change the setting from “Function Disabled” to “Windows OS”.
License Each Client:
For each client that you wish to deploy Agents on you will need to add your license key to the Company Info tab (Click “Browse”, locate the desired Company in your Client list and double-click on the Company). The license key is supplied to you upon purchase of the AutoElevate system. If you run the Install script on a client machine without a valid license key listed in the Company Info screen, the agent service will not start properly and will not successfully communicate to the AutoElevate notification server. This can be remedied by entering a valid license key and then re-running the installation scripts.
- Enter your license key on the Company->Info->AutoElevate tab and save.
- On this same screen you can enter 2 initials that represent the client in the “AE Company Short Initials” If supplied, these initials will override the default initials that the system generates and will show up in the mobile app as a quick reference for the technician if no other default graphic is available.
Run Installation Script:
Now you are ready to deploy the AutoElevate installation script and verify that everything is installing and working as anticipated.
- To initiate installation run the “AutoElevate INSTALL” script on client machines at the desired Companies, Locations, or on Individual machines where you have installed your license key.
Once the agent installation is complete the client machine will have a new auto start service named “AutoElevateAgent” which will also start the AEAlert and AEUACAgent processes. These services will communicate and register themselves with your AutoElevate server and Mobile Notification Apps automatically. You now can login to the AutoElevate MSP Admin portal to configure and control the agent behavior and features.
The agents are automatically installed in Audit mode so that information regarding the workstation’s UAC security settings and user’s behavior can be monitored without the user experience being changed. To start managing the user’s UAC experience and to enable notifications to your technical staff you will need to login to your MSP Admin portal and enable your agents to run in “Live” mode. Adjust Labtech Policies for Processes and Services
Next you should whitelist the AutoElevate processes. Depending on your deployment phase you may also want to Blacklist the AutoElevate service so as not to be alerted or have tickets opened as a result of the service being stopped. ** This only needs to be done one time for all agents on your Labtech server**
- Double click on one of the client machines that an AutoElevate Agent has been installed on and then ‘right click’ on the ‘Windows Symbol’ at the top of the agent window. From the list select ‘Processes’.
- Scroll down through the list of processes and look for the AutoElevateAgent, AEAlert and AEUACAgent ‘Right click’ on each process and select “Classify as Good Program” for each process.
If you don’t want CW Automate to monitor, alert, or respond to the AutoElevateAgent service’s running state then you will need to ‘Blacklist’ the service. This may be a desirable option during a trial or testing phase of deployment. To turn off Labtech monitoring of the service do the following:
- Double click on one of the client machines that an AutoElevate Agent has been installed on and then ‘right click’ on the ‘Windows Symbol’ at the top of the agent window. From the list select ‘Services’.
- Scroll down through the list of services and look for the AutoElevateAgent ‘Right click’ and select “Blacklist” for each process. You now should see the symbol to the right of the service indicating that the service has been Blacklisted.
To uninstall simply run the “AutoElevate UNINSTALL” script which will silently stop the AutoElevateAgent service and stop other AE processes, silently uninstall, remove the AutoElevate folder from .\LTSvc\packages directory, and the license key from the registry.
